3 Great "Dinner and a Show" Pairings in Waynesboro, VA

November 15, 2019
Stories, Arts & Culture, Food, Craft Beverage

Ideal pairings for a night on the town extend way beyond any combination of wine and cheese. We’ve mixed three altogether different flavors for the perfect date night in Waynesboro -- from performance theater with a downtown flair, to a pizza and movie special, to the ever-popular craft brew and food truck scene. Whatever your style, one of these is sure to please.

Downtown Dining & Theatre

For an evening of low light and high rewards, combine an elegant downtown meal with a live music or theatre performance. The Green Leaf Grill features a diverse menu including seafood gumbo, grilled salmon and fried oysters, creative vegetarian options, and a Bourbon Street sirloin. Local beer, as well as wine from regional vineyards are complemented with a variety of specialty cocktails. You won’t want to leave without sampling their cheesecake with espresso sauce or their flourless chocolate cake.

A short stroll away, the Wayne Theatre Ross Performing Arts Center will brighten your evening with live music and performance theatre. Visiting live music performances include groups like Wilson Fairchild, who are descendants of the world-famous Statler brothers of neighboring Staunton, VA, or the Grammy award-winning ensemble Chanticleer. If you're looking for something more family-oriented, book your seats for the Elf musical sing-along with Jimmy O, or Disney Frozen Jr. Historic movies, educational programming, and speaker events happen year-round, listed in the Wayne Theatre’s online playbill.

Take Me to the Movies

Kick off a winter movie night with delicious pizza from Benny Stivale's, and be sure to bring your appetite! Home of the "Virginia Slice," one piece of their pizza takes up two full-sized paper plates. They always have cheese and pepperoni on the menu, with rotating specials such as buffalo chicken or macaroni & cheese pizza. Benny's is also a great hub for regional craft beers, and they even let local breweries come in occasionally for Tap Takeovers.

After dinner, head on over to Zeus Theaters to catch the latest movie releases, all shown with stadium seating and high-quality digital projection.

Craft Beer and Local Tunes

For an evening that’s all good brews, grub, and local music, head on over to one of Waynesboro's awesome craft breweries. Basic City Beer Co., Stable Craft Brewing, and Seven Arrows Brewing all offer delicious and often beer-inspired in-house menus, with many items that are crafted with beer in mind. All three breweries are stops along our famous Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail as well; collect stamps from 8 out of our 15 breweries in the Valley to win a t-shirt that proudly announces your accomplishment!

After dinner, relax and wait for the show to begin! These breweries almost always have live music from local bands on the weekend. Whether it's Sun Dried Opossum at Basic City or the Jon Spears Band at Seven Arrows, craft beer and music lovers will be sure to find something they'll enjoy. Be sure to check the Waynesboro Tourism calendar of events for an up to date schedule of local happenings.

From ice cold craft beers to that little black dress, the hospitality industry in Waynesboro is ready to serve and happy to please every style and taste. Three cheers to a perfectly paired night on the town!
